Whether you're running on the beach, in the woods, or through city streets, it's essential to prioritise comfort and performance in your running gear. Here are the key factors to look out for:
Look for moisture-wicking materials, such as the ones used in PUMA dryCELL clothing. This material draws sweat away from the skin, keeping you dry and comfortable during your run. Avoid cotton, as it tends to hold moisture and can lead to discomfort or chafing.
Your running gear should be well-fitted but not restrictive. Look for clothing that is loose enough to allow a full range of motion but not so loose that it can get in your way. For shoes, proper fit is crucial to prevent blisters and other injuries.
Depending on the season, you may need to layer your clothing. In colder weather, layers can help to maintain body heat while still allowing moisture to be wicked away from the skin. Something as easy as pairing your long-sleeve tee with an oversized tank top could give you a more comfortable experience.
During summer months, opt for lightweight gear that reflects sunlight and keeps you cool. Our coolCELL trail running tee is a perfect example of this.
When running in cold weather, start off with lightweight layers that you can easily peel off if it gets too warm. Just remember to choose materials that don’t absorb and hold moisture, like cotton, so you’re not getting too cold later on in the run.
At PUMA, we have running tights that you can pair with a long-sleeve and a short-sleeve tee to give you that extra layer of protection. You can also throw on a running jacket if the conditions call for it.
Fabrics like polyester or nylon are often best for this purpose, as they keep you dry throughout your run. Our running shorts and tees come in a variety of options and styles for you to choose from.
Consider wearing a lightweight hat to shield your face from the sun, and sunglasses to protect your eyes.
A good pair of running shoes with breathable material is essential, as your feet can also get quite hot.
Be sure to always check the care labels on your running clothes.
Post-run, separate them for a pre-rinse if overly dirty or sweaty. Turn them inside out when washing, use cold water, and consider gentle detergent for extended wear.
Avoid fabric softeners and bleach—they can degrade the fabric and its performance features. Preferably, air dry your running attire instead of using a dryer, as heat can damage the material. If you must use a dryer, opt for a low-heat setting. Store your washed running apparel in a cool, dry place instead of a damp gym bag where bacteria can breed.
